cold mountain

saw cold mountain. i enjoyed it a lot. i actually think i liked it better than i might have otherwise because in knew inman died in the end. oh, oops- sorry, anyone who hasn't seen it. anyway, i knew it had a sad ending, so i didn't spend the entire movie thinking he was going to get back to her, then being like, "oh. he's dead. huh. how sad", you know? I knew he died, so i enjoyed the time he and ada spent together more, because i knew that was all they had. if it was up to me, of course, the ending would be happy, but i didn't have any say in it. julie said something interesting- she said that she didn't enjoy the end because she felt like jonathan frazier killed off inman just to make the story more "dramatic". llike, maybe he had the plot more or less in mind, and then he thought, "well, i don't know if it's dramatic enough. let's see, how do other writers make a story dramatic... i know! I'll kill off a major character! oh, how can i write this in.. hmm.. ok, well, vision, crows, albino homeguard guy, last night together... all right! good!" but really, i enjoyed the movie, and i'm glad ada and inman had one last night together. i also enjoyed seeing jack white sans his pasty makeup and bichromatic wardrobe. also, i thought the actors had a good chemistry, silly as that sounds. i genuinly thought it was a good movie- now, my only dillema is which i want to win best picture, return of the kings or cold mountain. thankfully cold mountain had some good female performances, and RotK had mostly male actors (too many, i thought- no lack of boy love in this movie, or the whole series), so i won't be so conflicted over the best actor and actress awards.
